THE PROJECT
HELPING HOSPITALIZED CHILDREN AT STONY BROOK CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL
THE PROJECT
Operation Give Back is very beneficial to Stony Brook Children's Hospital. The Child Life program supports the hospitalized children and families. Their exemplary work is crucial for making their hospital stay as painless as painless can be. Especially now, due to the Corona Virus as their work has been more critical than ever. With the donations from the general public Stony Brook Children's Child Life program is able to supply the children and their families with activities to pass the time, cope with pain or discomfort, and help ease the child's mind about having diagnostic tests and or procedures. With the donations through Amazon Wishlist you can help a hospitalized child get better.
THE HARD TRUTH
Being Hospitalized as a Child isn't easy
Spending many weeks in the hospital myself has helped shed light on the hardships of hospitalized children. These children that are hospitalized for one reason or another are suffering and at the moment they are just trying to get by day by day. Many of the children are feeling scared, sad, overwhelmed, frustrated and maybe even helpless. Being in the hospital can be traumatic to a young child and/or a teen. For instance being in pain going through painful procedures, like a blood draw or the insertion of an intravenous catheter can be traumatizing to a child. Also seeing an injury to their body, being exposed to medical equipment that looks or sounds scary, and seeing other hurt or sick kids can be traumatizing. Luckily the Child Life Program at Stony Brook Children's Hospital is spectacular and they mitigate the chances of any trauma occurring, helping the children cope with what is going on. In addition, they hand out toys and games to help pass the time. Anyone on the medical team whether it be a nurse, doctor or even a nurses aide knows that Child Life plays an integral part of the pediatric care team.
